Welcoming Vulnerability:
Hello my lovelies!
Lately I have been thinking about what this world would look like if we all welcomed vulnerability into our lives? When we admit that we don't have it all together instead of pretending we do, interesting things happen.
Is your ego freaking out right now as I say this? Because if anyone got a glimpse of who we REALLY are they might not like us. Actually we are SURE they won't like us, so we put on a little show. This show probably involves what you wear, how you behave in public, what you say to your boss, what you put up on facebook, and a million other things.
So in the spirit of making myself vulnerable, I will give you a few examples of things I know I do to make people believe I am a fully confident and well put together human...
1. I have never mentioned on this blog that I have always had a completely unrelated job aside from all the stuff I do for beautiful-vegan. That's because I feel embarrassed that I am not savvy enough or popular enough to only be running this site... (some day though).
2. I also pretty much never mention that I have had a cane for the past several years due to a brutal accident I was in, because it makes me look like I am not able to heal myself, even as a mostly raw vegan who does yoga...
3. I do feel beautiful now, but in my school years I felt like a real loser, had no confidence and saw myself as ugly. I pretended I didn't care when people made fun of me, even though I wished I could just sit down and tell them that it hurt me so badly... Actually I still have people leaving me comments like "tattoos are ugly", or "you're not that beautiful", but I delete them...
There are so many more, but I'll tell you what it means to me to be honest with you; Freedom. I have been writing these posts and making silly videos for over 5 years now, and I want to just be myself around you :)
I can promise you that even though I am nowhere near perfect I am really trying my best to inspire positive change on this planet through my little blog, and with my every day interactions. It's all I think about. And how do I change the world? I change myself. I bust through my obstacles one by one, and I give as much of myself as I can.
Maybe you will try this exercise yourself. It's liberating to be vulnerable, and I think it might invite people in more, and make them feel comfortable around you. As for politicians admitting imperfection... don't hold your breath; but each one of us is a leader!
Ps. I will inevitably find spelling mistakes in this post after it gets sent out to all my subscribers :)

for all their help with designing / promoting this website.
You are incredibly aesthetically beautiful and your show of vulnerability makes you more so. Xoxoxoxoxo. You have inspired me since I found your post to live more naturally in all ways.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your comment. I was scared to post this little article because it was personal, but that was the whole point :) All these people we look up to or feel envious of are, in almost all cases, working on themselves too. Thank you for being YOU.

I love this post and your authenticity. The truth is, it doesn't interest me if you walk with a cane, only if you are in pain or are suffering. Nor does it interest me where you work, only if you're happy. At the same time I can relate to holding in and putting too much thought into what others might think of me. You're a great example of how beautiful the truth is.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Treesa :) This message made me really happy. You are very sweet!

When I first read through your lovely blog, I thought to myself: gosh - she is soooo beautiful! Her messages are so wise, so very much to the point. I loved reading about your son and how you brought him up as a vegetarian/vegan despite all reservations of others. Your kindness seems to permeate everything you do and say. Making yourself vulnerable requires inner strength and peace. And being in love with yourself and the world. Not many people have that in them and not many strive for being special, unique, DIFFERENT - they love to be mainstream, to go with the flow. It makes them anonymus, unseen - a sign of angst as we humans tend to fight the 'other', as opposed to the 'I/us'? Just think of all those -isms, like speciesism, sexism, racism....
ReplyDeleteSo your gift of showing who you really are is precious. I think it makes a person stronger, mentally and physically to show his/her real personality.
Keep going, you are BEAUTIFUL!

Lyn,
ReplyDeleteI am amazed that anyone could say that you are not beautiful! From reading your blog I have seen that you are not only beautiful on the outside but also on the inside as well. You are an amazing person and anyone who doesn't see that is foolish!
Thank you for your blog, it has been so inspiring to me as I transition from vegetarian to vegan!
